Psoriasis is a skin disorder that causes skin cells to multiply up to 10 times faster than normal. This makes the skin build up into bumpy red patches covered with white scales. They can grow anywhere, but most appear on the scalp, elbows, knees, and lower back.

The condition is often characterized by inflammation and itchiness. Antibiotic creams, diet modifications, and prescription drug regimens are generally prescribed as part of the treatment plan, and the use of hyperbaric oxygen therapy can help psoriasis sufferers in many ways.

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy And Psoriasis Treatment

HBOT has been shown to treat a variety of conditions that conventional medications do not treat well. HBOT is approved by the Federal Medicare and Medicaid Services to treat more than 50 conditions, such as wound healing, infections, and late-stage radiation. The data shows that HBOT has anti-inflammatory benefits and positive effects on the immune system, which is why clinics are now using HBOT to treat psoriasis.

Patients with long histories of psoriasis were treated have seen marked improvement through hyperbaric oxygen therapy. In a case study by the National Library of Medicine, two patients with severe psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis were treated with multiple sessions of HBOT. The first patient had six sessions of HBOT at 60 minutes each and showed success in the control of his symptoms. A post-treatment check-in over a year later showed complete remission of psoriasis and improvement of psoriatic arthritis without medication.

The second patient was treated with 15 sessions of HBOT, which greatly improved the psoriatic lesions on her skin.
